Gasoline

Gasoline, also known as petrol, is a transparent petroleum-derived liquid that is highly flammable. It is used primarily as a fuel in internal combustion engines to power vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, trucks, boats, and small engines. Gasoline is composed of organic compounds that are combinations of hydrocarbons, with a typical mixture containing 75% saturated hydrocarbons and 25% aromatics. It has a high energy density, making it a practical fuel for transportation.

Composition:

  • Gasoline is primarily composed of organic compounds called hydrocarbons that are mixtures of alkanes (straight or branched) such as octane, and aromatic compounds such as benzene.
  • It also contains additives like methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), ethanol, or other oxygenates to reduce the formation of smog.
  • Typical gasoline contains over 100 different chemical compounds.

Grades:

  • Regular or unleaded gasoline is the most common type, with an octane rating of 87-90.
  • Midgrade has an octane rating of 89-93.
  • Premium or super unleaded has the highest octane rating of 91-94 to allow for higher compression ratios for more efficient combustion.

Specifications:

  • Specific properties are tightly controlled including octane rating, vapor pressure, sulfur and metal content, purity, and combustion properties.
  • Sold in Afghanistan according to Cobas specification – equivalent to European standards for better engine performance.

Uses:

  • Gasoline is primarily used as fuel for internal combustion engines in vehicles including cars, motorcycles, boats, small engines, generators, etc.
  • Also used as a solvent, in dry cleaning and paint thinners due to its low cost and volatility.

Packaging:

  • We transport gasoline via tanker trucks, distributing to fuel stations across the country in bulk.
  • Sold at pumps in liters for consumer vehicles.
